One should pray to the unfallen , keshava, rama, narayana, Krishna, rope – bellied(story of yashoda tying Krishna to grain crusher because he was very naughty, and every time she tried, the rope was always two fingers short); son of vasudeva, hari, holder of prosperity, dear to gopis, hero of sita – shri ramchandra, hero of rukmini – shri krishna –chandra ( all names of Vishnu)II
Krishna (????? in Devanagari, k???a in IAST, pronounced [?kr????] in classical Sanskrit,
literally "the dark one")Lord Krishna appeared over five thousand years ago in Mathura, India to Devaki and Vasudeva in the jail cell of the tyrant Kamsa. The place of His birth is known as Sri Krishna Janmasthana. He appeared with His brother Balarama in response to the demigods' prayers for protection from the widespread influence of demonic administration on earth.
The Supreme Lord descends from time to time in this material world to reestablish the teachings of the Vedas. In His Bhagavad-gita, Lord Krishna promises: "Whenever and wherever there is a decline in religious practice, O descendant of Bharata, and a predominant rise of irreligion--at that time I descend Myself. To deliver the pious and to annihilate the miscreants, as well as to reestablish the principles of religion, I Myself appear milleniumm after millenium.
Lord Krishna declares in Srimad Bhagavad Gita (4.8) :
paritranaya sadhunam vinashaya ca duskrtam
dharma samsthapanarthaya sambhavami yuge yuge.
Traditional belief based on scriptural details and astrological calculations gives the date of Krishna's birth, known as Janmashtami,[36] as either 18 or 21 July 3228 BCE.
He grew up as the son of His foster parents Nanda and Yasoda in the midst of the idyllic beauty of Gokula, Vrindavana, and Nandagram. Not only did He destroy numerous demons, but also performed His famous rasa dance
Janmashtami is celebrated in a grant way throughout India. It is celebrated for over 2 days. On midnight between the first Temples dedicated to Lord Krishna are thronged by devotees. At the exact time of appearance Conch is blown amidst of lot of hymns. The deity of Krishna is bathed with Holy waters and panchamrit. Then Lord is decorated with colorful dresses and flowers. Maha arti is performed and discourses are held on divine pastimes of Lord Krishna. Devotees fast whole
day and break it at midnight. On the whole, Janmashtami is celebrated with fervor and utmost devotion to Lord Krishnand second day Lord Krishna is welcomed. So the celebrations reach its peak at midnight.
evam etad yathattha tvam atmanam paramesvara
drastum icchami te rupam aishvaram purushottama
manyase yadi tac chakyam maya drastum iti prabho
yogeshvara tato me tvam darsayatmanam avyayam
O Almighty! Whatever You describe about Yourself, You are like that. O Supreme Personality! I want to see Your cosmic Godly form. If you think this cosmic form could possibly be seen by Me, than O Lord of Yoga! Then kindly show me Your Immortal Self.
pasya me partha rupani sataso ’tha sahasrasah
nana-vidhani divyani nana-varnakritini ca
pasyadityan vasun rudran asvinau marutas tatha
bahuny adrsta-purvani pasyascaryani bharata
Lord Krishna said:
O Partha! See hundreds of thousands of My forms. These are of diverse divine forms, of diverse colours, shapes and sizes. O Bharata! See the different manifestations of Adityas, Vasus, Rudras, Asvini-kumaras and maruts and many wonderful things which no one has ever seen before.
ihaika-stham jagat krtsnam pasyadya sa-caracaram
mama dehe gudakesha yac canyad drastum icchasi
O Conqueror of Sleep! See all the movables and immovables, the universe and anything else you want you see; all of these placed in one form in My body.
This year janmashthami will be celebrated on 1st 0ct , 2010, Wednesday.
